Appreciating the Little Things

Like this beautiful garlic braid we made earlier. French pinks with stupice flowers and amaranth tops.

We Went Far West

This past weekend Ariel and I spent three days camping on the coast. It was a nice mini-vacation after weeks of garlic harvest & prep, not to mention the usual load of farm duties. It was also a welcome escape from the heat (It was almost 90 today!).
We were recommended to visit Second Beach, just outside of La Push. A fairly short hike through the woods to the beach proper, and we were set.
While some may dislike misty, cool weather, especially on a beach camping trip, I thought that this was amazing. Although the periodic sprinkles made keeping our already-small fire going a bit of a challenge.

This was freezing, but refreshing first thing in the morning.

I can now say that I have been all the way from the far east coast to the far west coast. This also was an opportunity to mark a challenge off my birthday list (only 21 to go... not that I'm complaining). A bit last minute, this trip was worth every minute, and I really can't wait for the next time I can visit.

P.S. I have fabric to dye again! Soon there should be fat quarters in the shop if I'm not too bogged down or exhausted from work!

New Dyee-ees

An experiment with eucalyptus that didn't quite go as planned.

A new goose-print bandana. Mostly it's been used for protecting my favorite basket during wildcrafting adventures. Considering over dying with a shibori-style tie method and red alder bark...

And lastly, the Infinite Lion Scarf. Dyed with nettles, Japanese maple, willow, ferns and other miscellaneous greens. Features an old willow bark dyed pocket (pockets on everything, please) and an antler button I found at the Horse Drawn Auction & Swap Meet in Oregon a few months ago.
I am in love with how the iron keys showed up in the fabric, need to find more...
